Grandville teen killed in crash

MECOSTA COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Officials with Grandville Public Schools say that a student died in a crash over the weekend.

Roman Aguilar-Emmons, a senior at Grandville High School, was killed Saturday in a two-car crash on 8 Mile Road at Northland Drive.

Aguilar-Emmons had just celebrated his 18th birthday.

The school posted this on its Facebook wall:

"Roman has been with us since elementary school, where he was a student at East Elementary. Principal Chris VanderSlice and his teachers at GHS have shared that Roman was respectful, cheerful and well-liked by both his classmates and adults. He was enrolled in KCTC's criminal justice program. Roman thrived in that program and had plans to attend GRCC next year in order to eventually pursue a career in law enforcement."

This is the third student from the school who has died this school year.

FedEx building rampage in Kennesaw, Georgia

Suspected shooter in Ga. FedEx building rampage dressed "like Rambo"

An armed package handler with bullets strapped across his chest "like Rambo" opened fire Tuesday morning at a FedEx station outside Atlanta, wounding six people before police found the suspect dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot, police and witnesses said.
Three of the victims were in critical condition at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. Dr. Michael Nitzken told reporters at a news conference the victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds that were consistent with shotgun blasts.

Police rushed to the center after someone called to report an active shooter at 5:54 a.m. After surrounding the perimeter and working to clear the building, officers found the suspect dead, Cobb County police spokesman Michael Bowman said.

Cobb County police Sgt. Dana Pierce said the shooter, a package handler at the facility, was found with a shotgun and was carrying several unused explosive devices described as "Molotov cocktails." Pierce didn't say how many of the explosive devices the man had.

Police later identified the suspect as 19-year-old Geddy Kramer of nearby Acworth.

David Titus, a FedEx truck driver, said he was just coming to work around 6 a.m. when he saw someone walk up and shoot a security guard in the abdomen outside the building. He said he could hear more gunshots after the gunman went inside.
"It was chaos," Titus said. "Everyone was running, ducking and hiding, trying to get out of there."

FedEx clerk Liza Aiken said she was working inside when she heard something, dropped, looked to her left and saw the gunman.

"He had bullets strapped across his chest like Rambo, a huge assault rifle and he had a knife," Aiken said in a parking lot where employees were gathering not far from their workplace. Before she could continue, a woman wearing a FedEx jacket told Aiken to stop talking and led her away.

Aiken told CBS affiliate WGCL in Atlanta she worked with Kramer and had problems with him as recently as last Thursday.

She said the shooter was taking a laser package scanner and flashing it in her eyes. She reported the incident to management and Kramer was verbally reprimanded. She said she was afraid to think about what could have happened if he had seen her during Tuesday's attack.

"A as soon as I saw what he was wearing, I ran the other way," Aiken told WGCL.

"That is what scares because he was right in the area that I always work in. I don't know if he was coming for me, the belt manager that works that belt, I don't know," she said.

Six people wounded at the FedEx station were taken to nearby Wellstar Kennestone hospital, where spokesman Tyler Pearson said one victim was rushed to surgery with potentially critical injuries. Others were less serious.
"A lot of them were able to walk off the ambulance," Pearson said.

The three victims listed as critical were a 28-year-old man, a 52-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, Nitzken said. Another man, 38, remained at the hospital but was stable. Two other victims - a 42-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man - were treated and released.

The facility about 25 miles north of Atlanta is a hub where packages are sorted and loaded onto vehicles for delivery. It's next to the general aviation airport for suburban Cobb County.

The company said it was cooperating with police but had no details to release about the shootings.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected, and with their families and friends. We are grateful for the assistance of law enforcement," FedEx said in a statement. The situation is now stabilized and we are focused on the needs of our team members and cooperating with the law enforcement investigation of this tragedy."

UPDATE: Bays Mountain re-opened following rockslide

By David McAvoy, Reporter/ Photographer/ Producer

Update: Bays Mountain Park re-opened this afternoon, after a rockslide shut down the park earlier in the day.

Crews finished removing the large rocks that had fallen on the access road around 2 p.m.

The park's website stated that park grounds and the Herpetarium are now open, however the Nature Center and Planetarium are closed.

The park closes at 5 p.m., and will reopen on its regular schedule Saturday.

A majority of the access road was impassible, but no one was injured by the slide.

The rockslide occurred north of the gatehouse and north of the area where road repairs were made two years ago.

Multi-agency manhunt leads to arrest in Blountville

A manhunt sent a Sullivan County community into high alert last night and now the suspect who caused all the commotion is behind bars.

The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office arrested 21-year-old Larry Allen Stumbo late last night. After he led them on a short foot chase across Highway 394.
A helicopter from the Virginia State Police illuminated the Blountville Bypass in Sullivan County.
Several law enforcement agencies were called in after witnesses reported that the suspect attempted to break into their home.
According to Sullivan County Sheriff Wayne Anderson the suspect was pursued by sheriff's deputies across the highway, where he ditched a pistol, and was soon apprehended.
Sheriff Anderson says Stumbo could also be connected to an alleged rape that happened in the same neighborhood early Friday morning.

"It happened in the same neighborhood so that makes him a strong person of interest. Because it happened in the same neighborhood we don't know it's the same guy. It could be a coincidence but at this point he is a person of interest," said Sullivan County Sheriff Wayne Anderson.

School sends Social Security numbers, personal information home

Several Johnson City parents are frustrated after their children's personal information, including Social Security numbers, went home with other students.

Johnson City Schools Supervisor of Instruction and Communications Dr. Debra Bentley says some Woodland Elementary School students in six classrooms were affected by the mix-up earlier this week.

"In six classrooms some parents did receive the incorrect information," Dr. Bentley said. "(Documents) were put in the child's folder, the child then takes the folder and puts it in their backpack."

She says the school sent emergency contact information home with students in an effort to make sure all of that information was up-to-date. Unfortunately, the school system says some children's emergency contact cards went home with the wrong kids.

"We want our parents to know we consider this quite serious so we are quickly moving to make sure we have procedures in place to make sure this doesn't happen again, but also monitor in the long term any concerns from this," Dr. Bentley said.

Although the superintendent says he believes the potential for harm is minimal, he is now apologizing for the mix-up and pledging the school system will do everything it can to make sure it never happens again. According to Dr. Bentley, schools will never again send home documents containing personal information. Instead, emergency contact information will be updated securely online.

Kenneth Thompson was one of the parents who received a letter alerting him that his son's information may have been sent home with the wrong child.

"It's crazy, I just don't understand how you can send someone else's information to someone else's house, it doesn't make sense to me," Thompson said. "Only thing I can do is just take their word and hope that it doesn't happen again, but whatever happened they need to get to the bottom of it and make sure it doesn't happen again."
