Clerk dies from gunshot wound, Anderson Deputies Searching For Suspect

Anderson County deputies are searching for the man who they said walked into a convenience store late Thursday night and shot a clerk in the head.



Mradulaben Patel was shot at the BP Station on Highway 153 just off Interstate 85 around 10:30 p.m. She was taken by EMS in critical condition, and died at Greenville Memorial Hospital Saturday morning at 11:38 according to Anderson County Coroner Charlie Boseman.

Patel was found shot of the floor of the business by a customer who then called 911.



Deputies said the suspect, who was recorded on surveillance video, entered the store about 10:30 p.m., purchased cigars and then pulled out a gun and shot the clerk in the face.



A makeshift memorial has been placed at the convenience store in honor of Patel. Flowers, balloons and letters rest just feet from where she was found.



Patel's friends and customers remember her as a friendly and caring woman. Many of them told 7 On Your Side they're now hoping for justice. "If you didn't have the money to buy something, she was the woman to give it to you. She's just a loving, caring person," said Tim Franklin, Patel's friend. "Just turn yourself (the suspect) in. She didn't deserve this at all. She didn't deserve any of it."



The suspect, who deputies said didn't take anything from the store, is described as a black male last seen wearing a fishing hat, dark pants, tennis shoes and a white shirt.
