Victim wants beating classified as hate crime

Twenty-six-year-old Devin Norman has fractures in the bones of his face and bruises to his eyes.
Corinth police say 22-year-old James Scott attacked Norman at the Walmart in Corinth on Friday.
"I never thought of him as the kind of violent type," said Norman.
Norman says Scott should be facing hate crime charges, since he used gay slurs and attacked him because of his sexual orientation. Norman says Scott grabbed him by the back of his neck and punched him after he tried walk away.
"I think that it's a travesty that there's an entire segment of abuse that's just swept under the rug," said Norman. "Yes, his assault was aggravated but it's entirely something else. Entirely. It was simply because of who I love."
Those close with Scott say Norman was trying to "out" him by posting private pictures and text messages the two men shared. Norman says he threatened to post the photos as a defense mechanism .
"I don't have them any more. I was bluffing, hoping that he would back away from me because his body language was so threatening, and violence scares me."
At this time, police do not believe it is not a hate crime. Officials say they will continue to investigate to determine if it does in fact qualify. Police plan on increasing the charges from simple assault to aggravated assault on Monday.
Scott is now out of jail on bond.

Deputy Fired After Tasing 65-Year-Old Man in Wheelchair in Pickens Co.

A Pickens County Sheriff's Office deputy has been fired after an internal investigation found his tasing of an unarmed man in a wheelchair was “inappropriate” and “unjustified.”

“Gracious alive, why did they tase me? I wasn't a danger to them,” said 65-year-old Parker Mansell, Jr., who's been using a wheelchair to get around since a stroke left him paralyzed on the right side of his body 16 years ago.

The investigation conducted by the sheriff's office stemmed from an incident where deputies were called to help the Pickens City Police Department serve bench warrants at Parker Mansell's home on his son 25-year-old Travis Antonio Mansell last Friday, Feb. 20.

The sheriff's office said three deputies were accompanied by a police officer to serve the warrants from previous charges of Possession of Stolen Goods, Resisting Arrest and Driving Under Suspension at 805 W. Lee Street.

A release from the sheriff's office said Mansell's girlfriend Lanie Davis told deputies Travis was not there, even though deputies spotted Mansell through a window hiding inside the home.

When deputies went inside, they said Travis Mansell told them that he wouldn't go back to jail and that they would have to kill him.

“He's got that schizophrenia and bipolar. He told them, he said, ‘Don't come up on me,' and said, ‘If you do, you'll have to kill me to arrest me,'” said Parker Mansell.

Deputies called for backup while they tried to get Mansell to surrender.

The sheriff's office said Parker Mansell positioned his wheelchair between deputies and his son, trying to block them from getting to him.

A deputy tased Travis Mansell and arrested him.

The sheriff's office release said backup Deputy Steven A. Ticknor tased Parker Mansell.

The release said Ticknor felt the need to "prevent the father from injuring the deputies that were physically arresting the son.”

Parker Mansell said the tasing caused him to fall out of his wheelchair and cut his foot open.

“He hit the ground and I walked up and I was like, ‘Why did y'all tase him?' And the man took me and threw me on the couch,” said Davis.

The investigation determined that the use of the taser on Parker Mansell was inappropriate and not within the scope of Pickens County policy, while the tasing of Travis Mansell was appropriate considering the situation.

"The father was confined to a wheelchair and was limited in mobility," said Sheriff Rick Clark in the release. "Though he was verbally upset, he posed no significant danger to the Deputies as he was unarmed and made no overt threats. The decision to use the Taser on Mr. Mansell, Jr was inappropriate and not necessary to protect any party nor was it necessary to the complete the arrest of Travis.”

Sheriff Clark fired Deputy Ticknor Wednesday.

Clark said it is unfortunate and disappointing that the deputy chose to use the level of force he did.

“The deputies are supposed to be here to serve and protect,” said Parker Mansell.

Clark has requested an external review of the incident by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

The office's investigation into the interference by Parker Mansell and Davis continues.

Travis Mansell is being held in the Pickens County Detention Center on Resisting Arrest and Possession of Cocaine charges in addition to the bench warrants.

Daily Blog: Sunday January 18, 2014 - Otis Hydraulic Elevator @ Panera Bread in Grandville,Michigan

Today I Was Riding a Otis Hydraulic Elevator at Panera Bread in Grandville, Michigan. The fan was annoying as Youtube User DieselDucy says. The Elevator Capacity was 2100 pounds (1 ton). I never rode an elevator in a restaurant until that moment today. Before I rode the elevator I had chicken noodle soup and a barbeque chicken salad for lunch.  Had a cherry pastry and mountain dew to drink.

Daily Blog January 13, 2015 The Day After Ohio State Beat Oregon For The National Championship

Hello You tubers, It's Your Friend Zachary Betts and welcome to youtube user 1986bettszachary, Where Last Night the 4th Rated Ohio State Knocked off Second Ranked Oregon Ducks by a score of 42-20 to clinch their first national championship since 2002 where the upset top ranked Miami of Florida by a score of 31-24 in Double Overtime in the 2003 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

Ohio State Gains Ground

Ohio State earned its sixth national title since the start of the poll era in 1936, fifth-most behind leaders Alabama, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and USC.

Buckeyes running back Ezekiel Elliot
,
a sophomore, was the offensive MVP and ran for 246 yards and four touchdowns on a career-high 36 carries. In the past three games -- the Big Ten championship against Wisconsin, the Allstate Sugar Bowl semifinal against Alabama and the final against Oregon -- Elliott had 696 yards rushing.

Mariota passed for 333 yards and two touchdowns, but the Ducks' warp-speed spread offense missed too many red zone opportunities and couldn't unleash its running game against linebacker Darron Lee and an Ohio State front seven stacked with future NFL draft picks.
"We fought through a lot of stuff," Mariota said. "We ended up short tonight, but that shouldn't take away from what we were able to do this year."
Even with the benefit of four Ohio State turnovers, the Ducks were held to their lowest point total of the season, four touchdowns fewer than their average coming in. They went 2-for-12 on third downs, with two dropped passes in the first half.
"Their front seven is unbelievable," Oregon receiver Byron Marshall said. "I think we missed some opportunities, and they played a great game."
When Jones surged and spun his way into the end zone with 4:49 left in the second quarter, it was 21-7 Ohio State, and the "O! H! I! O!" chant made the dome in North Texas sound like the horseshoe in Columbus. The Ducks were facing their largest deficit of the season.
If there was any concern that fans wouldn't travel to the championship game in the new postseason system, the packed house at the home of the Dallas Cowboys, awash in Buckeyes scarlet and Ducks yellow, put that to rest. The crowd of 85,689 was as charged as that at any BCS national championship game.
But by the time Elliott went in from 2 yards out with 9:44 left in the fourth to make it 35-20, it was clear this night had turned into a Buckeyes bash.
Ohio State is 9-0 against Oregon, its best record against any school in program history.
Ohio State joins Alabama, Notre Dame, USC, and Oklahoma as the only schools with six national titles.

Ohio State has now defeated a pair of Heisman Trophy winners - O.J. Simpson and Marcus MariotaOhio State was ranked 5th in the final AP poll before bowl season. That's tied for the highest jump ever from the second-to-last AP poll to the final AP poll.
